It's All About The Timing - the INTERACTIVE METRONOME is an excellent adjunct to our Denver location of occupational & physical therapy services at Catalyst Therapies,LLC
The Interactive Metronome (IM) combines the steady beat of the
metronome with technology. This patented system, by accurately
measuring a person's timing and providing immediate feedback,
allows an individual to improve their motor accuracy and focus.
How Does IM Work?
Karen Voss, has
been using the IM therapy program with her clients since 2001. The program helps "re-train" the brain for building sustained focus and
motor timing skills. A typical program is 15 to 20 sessions
that can be completed in 3 to 5 weeks.
There are 13 exercises for upper and lower limb
movements. A steady beat with auditory "guide sounds" aids the participant in accuracy of their movement.

The exercises are fundamental skills inherent in all of our movements and focus whether it be daily function or sports.
By measuring and responding on a millisecond level, the participant
can make changes in their processing and focus at a level not offered
by any other program.
Who Can Benefit From IM?
-
Children struggling with attention deficit disorder, school performance particularly in math, reading, & handwriting.
-
Individuals needing to improve or regain motor control, balance, gait, coordination, timing and sequencing for motor accuracy and performance. Some clients who have benefited greatly from IM include: Post stroke, TBI-traumatic brain injury, Post-Concussion, amputees adjusting to motor timing and sequence with their prosthesis.
-
Anyone seeking a change in their performance level. This includes individuals who have suffered injury as well as those looking to fine tune their skills in the area of mental focus for academics or sports.

"Attention, learning and problem solving depend in part on
the ability to plan and sequence actions and ideas. The Interactive
Metronome helps individuals systematically exercise and often improve
basic motor planning and sequencing capacities."
Stanley I. Greenspan, MD, child psychiatrist, author of Building
Healthy Minds and Chairman of IM Scientific Advisory Board.
Ron Culp, Team Trainer for the Miami Heat remarked, "I've been
favorably impressed by players' improved decision-making and focus," after completing the IM program.
