Occupational Therapy & Hand Therapy Specialty

What is hand therapy?

“Hand therapy is the art and science of rehabilitation of the upper extremity of the human body.

Hand therapists are occupational therapists or physical therapists that, through advanced training and experience, have specialized knowledge of upper extremity function and rehabilitation. Using their advanced skills in assessment and treatment, hand therapists work with their clients to prevent injury or impairment, restore functional activity, and enhance participation in daily life."                                                               ASHT, American Society of Hand Therapists

At Catalyst Therapies: We provide individualized patient information for everyday life skills for patients to return to an active and productive lifestyle. We will design and help clients implement an exercise program to increase motion, dexterity and/or strength. Other intervention may include custom splint fabrication for support or corrections of alignment for their ability to use their hands without strain in everyday tasks.

Why use a Hand Therapy Specialist?

  • A hand therapist will provide accurate assessments for those patients with hand or upper extremity injury. Assessment from a well rounded specialist with advanced training reduces multiplication of providers, more immediate care, and effective treatment to a quicker recovery for patients.
  • Faster recovery results in decreased medical costs and equates to a faster return to work and productive lifestyle.
  • Hand therapists with an interdisciplinary approach provide the most comprehensive care for patients.
